Delete Your Older Emails Automatically With Auto-Purge
The great way of deleting older emails in Gmail is using the Email Studio’s ‘Auto-purge‘ feature. It is the Email Studio’s built-in feature that helps its users by deleting older emails by itself automatically. If you look at the Microsoft Outlook it has an ‘Auto-Sweep‘ feature which allows you to delete older email messages automatically (after a certain period of time) that was received from some specified senders. Not only that, but it also allows you to set up rules that mark older emails as reading or move emails to different folders based on some conditions.
There is no doubt that Microsoft Outlook’s Auto-Sweep feature is outstanding to delete older messages, but if you want Gmail will provide you this type of feature then you have to choose Gmail’s new add-on Email -Studio’s Auto-purge feature. Because the Gmail offers you some filter but that filters only able to work on new incoming emails, and you can not set up a filter in Gmail called ‘Auto-purge‘, or on the other hand there is no filter that will apply a different level to emails after mark them as read or after a specific number of days.

The Gmail’s new helpful add-on the Email Studio provides a built-in feature where it deletes old emails automatically, the name of the feature is ‘Gmail Auto Purge‘. The Email Studio allows you to set up some rules for this purpose. Some examples of rules are stated below.
- The emails that were received more than a month ago, it can delete them. It can delete emails of some particular senders or particular folders.
- It can delete the archive and ‘Mark as Read‘ all emails in the inbox folder that are more than three months old.
- This service can help you by deleting the Star emails that are in the ‘Follow up’ folder and received more than 2 weeks ago.
- This can remove all emails from the Gmail trash permanently and the spam folder after 2 days. [NOTE, Gmail will only clear your spam and trash after 30 days.]
- It can apply the label ‘follow up’ to all starred emails after a week or a month.

Basically, the Email Studio is free but if you want to make multiple sets of Purge Rules then you can switch to the Premium Version, which costs $29 /year. The Premium Version includes auto-responder, email scheduler, and forwarder.
HOW YOU ENABLE AUTO-PURGING IN GMAIL
STEP A Install the Email Studio add-on and go to the Gmail website and open any email message in your inbox. Then, there in the right sidebar, you will see the Email Studio icon, open the Email Studio.
STEP B Log in Email Studio with your Gmail account and next choose the ‘Email Cleanup‘ tool from the list of available options.
STEP C Thereafter to set up a rule click on the ‘Add new rule‘. Then you will see two parts, you specify a condition and then specify an action, as per your rule it will perform on messages.
STEP D After creating the rule, you just click on the ‘Save‘ option, and in the background, the Email Studio will launch.
This service will auto-run almost every hour and take action on the basis of your mentioned conditions/ rule. It does not require hand operation, this runs the rules automatically.
