The Samsung Galaxy Note Series has launched in 2011, at IFA Berlin.  Samsung offered the Samsung Galaxy Note with the larger and modified technology and that time some content was not seen before in any smartphone. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note came with a 5.3-inch display that was considered as beyond expectations smartphone for the users, because before the launch of Galaxy Note, in 2011, the Samsung company made their smaller phones, like 4.3-inch display smartphone. After Samsung Galaxy Note, the Samsung launched their Galaxy Note 2 in September 2012. This Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model came with some updated features and some of the features were seen on Galaxy S3. The Galaxy Note 2 sports 5.5-inch display, powerful battery cell, improved AMOLED panel, more S Pen-centric functions, an upgraded digitizer with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity for more precise pen input, improved hardware design(based on Galaxy S 3), Air View(allows previews of content to be displayed by hovering the pen above the screen), split-screen multitasking, a faster quad-core processor and double RAM. The S Pen gave the better experience when users used it in 5.5-inch improved AMOLED display of Galaxy Note 2. This phone was an improved device compared to Galaxy Note, and a grand successor for Samsung.


On 4th September 2013, the Galaxy Note 3 was released with bigger 5.7-inch screen and a more “premium” design with a plastic leather backing. The phone offered many upgraded features. In this series, the Samsung added the 13-megapixel camera, IR blaster,  5.7-inch 1080p display, USB 3.0 connector(for faster charging and data connectivity), expanded stylus pen function, and included the ability of 4K video recording up to 5 minutes. The Galaxy Note Neo was released in January 2014, and it was the downgraded version of Galaxy Note 3. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo had come with 8 MP camera, 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD 720p display, S-Pen stylus, Note 3’s software, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage. The Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Neo had sports some features for the first time, like as, the Samsung Exynos Hexa 5260(6 core) processor with HMP, Mali-T624 GPU, a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 CPU and a dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex A15 CPU.


The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was revealed on September 3, 2014, and on October 2014 this new model was introduced. Then, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 came with a 5.7-inch QHD display and offered the improved S-Pen stylus which was upgraded with digitizer 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and expanded functionality. The Galaxy Note 4 offered the new look with plastic leather backing and metal frame design. The phone sports the 16 MP camera with OIS, fingerprint scanner, and many more features. The Smartphone packed with a 3,000mAh non-removable lithium battery for China and the 3,220mAh lithium-ion battery for global. The phone support Qi inductive charging. Because of these features, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was known as the true power-house during its time.


The Samsung Electronics introduced an Android phablet, which was disclosed as Youm concept. That surface as part of the Galaxy Note Edge, on 4th September 2014, alongside with the Galaxy Note 4. At Consumer Electronics Show, 2013, the Samsung give “Youm” concept prototypes for Smartphones, one prototype had a curved screen along with the right edge of the phone. In this new curved edge, the camera app offered additional buttons to minimize the clutter with the viewfinder and on the top usually, it displayed the notifications.



The Samsung Galaxy Note 5’s design, hardware, glass backing, metal frame, and other specifications were made on the base of Galaxy S9. The Galaxy Note 5 disclosed on 13th August 2015. This phone also sports the 5.7-inch 2560px1440p Quad HD Super AMOLED display, its “Screen off memo” feature offers the phone to be awoken directly to a note screen when the stylus is removed and its camera app allowed public and private live streaming directly to YouTube. The Galaxy Note 5 had come with Exynos 7 Octa 7420 chip, Octa-core 64-bit 14nm CPU, Mali-T760 MP8 GPU, 4Gb LPDDR4 memory and Android 5.1.1 “Lollipop” operating system. It offered a Fingerprint sensor, and its S-Pen adopted a feature, an auto-eject mechanism to mimic the click you get with a pen. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 support a non-removable 3,000 mAh lithium-ion battery that offered wireless charging which was also a brand new feature in Samsung Galaxy Note series.


On 2nd August 2016 the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was announced in a press event in New York City and it officially launched on 19th August 2016. This device was the first device from Samsung which support the USB-C connector. The Galaxy Note 7 offered its users– a 5.7-inch curved dual-edge (display is curved across the sides of the device) Super AMOLED screen, the higher degrees pressure sensitive stylus and a finer tip, an iris scanner for unlocking the phone, expandable storage, IP68 water resistance and Galaxy S7 based camera and processor. The Samsung had got reports from many users in August 2016, they claimed that the phone was overheating and even exploding. This happened for some manufacturing problems in internal batteries. The company issued a recall of the phone and offered to replace the Note 7 models which had been sold to customers with new units, and some of the replacement Note 7 models was started catching on fire. Samsung ended its production of Galaxy Note 7 in October and launched a full recall of all of the Note 7 phones which had been sold to customers, and who wanted to keep their Note 7 units, the company issued over-the-air software updates from which the phone was working as a cellular mobile device because over-the-air software updates would be prevented the phone from charging. The Samsung discovered in January 2017, that the first lot of Galaxy Note 7 had issued for a design flaw in the upper-right corner, that allowed the protective layer in the battery inside to become damaged and replacement Galaxy Note 7 lots were affected by “abnormally high welding bars” resulted in “direct contact with the negative electrode” in battery, the Samsung said that all of its feature phones would go through an eight-step battery test to make sure these kinds of design issues will not happen again. In July 2017, with this recall, the Samsung decided to release refurbished Note 7 models under the Galaxy Note Fan Edition branding, in select countries in Asia and these Galaxy Note 7 models came with smaller batteries.


The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was announced on 23rd August 2017, and was available from 15th September 2017. This phone sports the biggest screen of Note series which is 6.32-inch 2,960×1,440 resolution Super AMOLED Infinity display with 18:5:9 same aspect ratio which was launched by the company for the Galaxy S8 series, earlier in 2018. If we compared the Galaxy Note 7 with Galaxy Note 8, we can see that the new model had the increased RAM of 6GB where Note 7 had 4GB RAM. The Galaxy Note 8 was the first phone from Samsung which support the dual rear camera setup (with 12MP sensors) – one with a wide angle lens and other with a telephone lens. The phone supported a weirdly positioned fingerprint scanner the placed to the right of the dual camera. The Galaxy Note 8 offered Snapdragon 835/Exynos 8895 processor (depending on location), IP68 dust and water resistance, an iris scanner and this phone was also the first in the Note series which had a dedicated Bixby button. The Galaxy Note 8 was the most expensive phone from Samsung that launched up to the point and it had came with $930 starting price.


The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was unveiled on 9th August 2018 during its Unpacked press event and it was available from 24th August 2018. The Samsung improved so many features, and some of them we have seen in Galaxy Note 9, for example, the Galaxy Note 8 offered the larger 6.32-inch screen, but when the Galaxy Note 9 came it offered slightly larger screen from Galaxy Note 8, the screen measured 6.4-inch (Galaxy Note 9). There were also another changes we have seen like as the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 came with 128GB variant storage variant, with 6GB RAM, and the company announced for another 512GB variant with 8 GB RAM, and it (512GB) will support microSD card for additional storage. For battery comparison, Note 9 offered the bigger 4,000mAh battery, where the Note 8 offered 3,300mAh battery. The Galaxy Note 9 supports fast wireless/ wired charging,  IP68 water, and dust resistance, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, dual camera setup which was similar as Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.5 and f/2.4 dual aperture and a 12MP telephoto sensor with the f/2.4 aperture for Bokeh effect at the back, the phone included AI software for improved photography.

The S-Pen came with new technology where users get the ability to operate and launch apps on the phone, it could control the camera that will last up to 200 clicks or 30 minutes on a single charge, you can also control slideshow, Youtube as remotely by the S-Pen and this S-Pen is Bluetooth enabled. This S-Pen takes only 40 seconds to fully charge the S-Pen’s battery and battery up again when it placed back inside the Galaxy Note 9.
