Internet Protocol (IP) Address?
The short form of Internet Protocol Address is IP Address. With an IP Address, one device can identify another device on a TCP/IP network. The process is, IP specifies the datagrams (format of packets) and the addressing scheme. Most of the networks combine with Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), Which create a virtual connection between a source and a destination. IP is like postal system, IP (Internet Protocol) address is like your post box number, it addresses the package where it drops in the network system.
IP Address Format
It is a 32-bit numeric address that has 4 numbers separated by periods. Each of the numbers can be placed between 0 to 255.
Example: 126.96.36.199 is can be an IP on a device if it unique in the network.

A private network to connect on the Internet require registered IP address (Internet IP Address). In an isolated network, you can assign a random unique IP address in each device.
How Do I know My IP?
Each Type of device has different options to view IP, in this article we talk about Windows Computer. Windows also has many options to view own IP address.
The most common process is “ipconfig“ to use it go to system’s command line tool and type the command then hit enter. It will display all current TCP/IP values such as IPv4/IPv6 address, DNS (Domain Name System), and refreshes DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) on the screen.
Process: Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Type “ipconfig“ hit Enter.
This process is showing local IP means the internal IP (Internet protocol) address, if you want to see your public IP address there is an easy way, If you have an active Internet connection on your device. Go to your Internet browser open google and type “what is my IP address“ Google will show your public IP Address.
Dynamic Vs Static IP (Internet Protocol) Addresses

- Class A – holds 16M hosts on each of 126 networks. (188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206)
- Class B – holds 65K hosts on each of 16K networks. (220.127.116.11 to 18.104.22.168)
- Class C – holds 254 hosts on each of 2M networks. (22.214.171.124 to 126.96.36.199)
- Class D – reserved for multicast groups. (188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206)
- Class E – reserved for future research or development purposes. (240.0.0.0 to 254.255.255.254)
Day by day the number of the unassigned Internet Internet Protocol address is running out, A new classless called CIDR is replacing the old classes A, B, C and tied to adoption of IPv6. The IPv6 is 128 bits, it’s larger than 32 bits IPv4.
Note:- 127.x.x.x are reserved for localhost/loopback, Like an example, 127.0.0.6 is the IP address for loopback. 255.255.255.255 is the broadcasts for all hosts on the local network.
